F is for Fish

The alphabet continues!  I actually did this drawing right after C is for Cupcake and then had to hold of posting it until I had done D and E.

E is for Elephant

And yay for the next installment! E is for Elephant!

Wireless Printing

This is an illustration I did for the school newspaper, The Huntingtonian, to accompany an article about the new wireless printing system that allows students to print from their laptops wirelessly, rather than using a thumb drive and opening the file on one of the school desktops in order to print. This illustration was done in Photoshop.

Door Schedules

This is one of the door schedules I created for the Digital Media Arts Department of my university.  Done in InDesign with artwork done in Photoshop.

Olympiad T-shirt Design - Burning Baby Bird

Here is another t-shirt design. The olympiad shirt design is chosen through a campus-wide contest. I know of at least six other people who are submitting ideas. So yeah, no idea at this point if mine will get chosen but still a good exercise for practicing design.

Olympiad Tshirt Design - Axe

Here's a t-shirt design for Olympiad. Done in Photoshop.

Here is my first character design for Eline.

Character Design - Marie

This is my first character design work for my senior project.  I'm going to be working on a graphic novel adaptation of The Wolf Hunt by Gillian Bradshaw.  This is my first design for the main character, Marie.

Birthday Card

Today, Professor Ballinger asked me to create a birthday card Sandy, our department administrative person. So I designed and created this card in about 3 hours during one of my classes with Ballinger. We could only print on one side of the paper so the design reflects that. It was done in Photoshop. The birthday message came from birthdaymessages.com.

I haven't been able to post for the past several weeks because the computer labs have been down for upgrades and installation.  But now that school has started I should be posting more often.

Senior Project Logo Design

This year I will be working on two senior projects.  My personal project is a graphic novel based on The Wolf Hunt by Gillian Bradshaw.  I will also be doing design work for my husband's senior project.  This is a preliminary logo design for the back of one of the character's leather jackets.

Old Art II - Random

These are a few of my random drawings I did last year when trying to learn how to use a tablet.  The first (Fury), third (Insectoid) and sixth (Liliana) were all drawn directly on the computer with a tablet.  The others - Goddess, FairLady, and Drogan were sketched on paper, scanned in, and redrawn with a tablet.

Goddess and FairLady were sketches inspired by my search for my wedding dress at the time.  (And no I didn't end up with a goddess style dress but I do think they are gorgeous.)

Old Art I - Portraits

So these are some portraits I did last year when I was trying to learn how to use a tablet and draw directly onto the computer.  If you can't tell who they are then I apologize.  (They are all movie stars.)

Vacation Time

Hey all!  Sorry I haven't been posting much lately.  I'm on vacation visiting my family and have been on the road.  Now I'm staying with my parents but don't have the means (scanner/tablet/cintiq) to post any new stuff for awhile.  I did find some older drawings on my computer and so I'll post some of them later.

The above is a coloring sheet I submitted to a coloring contest.  (I did not draw the ladybugs.  The coloring page was provided.)  It's done with fine point sharpies and is the beginning of the book of Ephesians NIV.  I won the (second) first prize.

Steampunk Girl

Yay, my first steampunk character!  This was a lot of fun to draw.  For those of you who don't already know, steampunk is a genre of sci-fi/fantasy that basically is a mix of victorian era fashion/world with steam-powered anachronistic technology.  It's pretty awesome.  Some examples of steampunk include Treasure Planet (Disney movie), Howl's Moving Castle (Miyazaki film), The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (comic and movie), literature by Jules Verne and lots of other great fiction. :)

Anyway, I plan on adding some color to this pic in a few days.

Druidess

Well here is my first of the summer posts.  This is a quick painting of a sketch I did my freshmen year of college.  I ran out of time and so had fun with the fairy dust brush from Painter.

Junior Project Stills

Here are some still shots from my Junior Project.  I was on a group of four people.  Our short film was called "The Stalker Story."  Rachel Wonderlin was the project leader and took the lead on Story and Cameras.  Sarah Kryznowek was in charge of textures and lighting.  My husband, Jake Knight, was lead modeler, rigger, and animator.  And I was lead design, I made all the cut-outs and I was the render wrangler.

Fisti-Cuffs: Bad Loaf

Here are my final versions of my superhero card.  The Fisti-Cuffs-style showdown is tonight against the other class.  I don't personally like the layout for the front of the card but my class went with a common layout and this was it.  I did not draw the Team Bortz logo.  Perhaps if I have time I'll make my own version later.  If you can't read the words, you should be able to click on it for a larger image.

*Also the quote on the front is an actual movie quote.  Can anyone name the movie?

Colored Superhero

Here is my colored version of my superhero.  I will have the card completed by Tuesday.  I'll post it when I'm done.  The front is almost done, I just need to add a background.  The back of the card has not yet begun.  Very exciting to see it coming together.

LineArt for Superhero

Here is the finished inking for my superhero, Bad Loaf.
This is for Bryan Ballinger's Inspirational Design class.  We're gonna have a FistiCuffs tournament against the other class.  I'll post the finished version soon.  Below are the main steps to get to this point.

Lighting3

This is my third lighting practice.  It's a little weird trying to find the right colors for desert plants because they're green, but not really.  This is a pic of somewhere in Arizona, my home state. :)

Lighting 2

Here's my second lighting practice.  I did not keep track of how long this took me. :)

Lighting

This was a painting to practice lighting.  I'll be doing some more of these.  I want to get faster.  This one took me like 45 minutes.  I want to get to the point where it takes me like 10-20 minutes.
